Baritone Elja Puukko (born 966) has studied in the church music and vocal soloist programs at the Sibelius Academy as well as at the Hochschule Der Künste in Berlin. He has also attended numerous master courses both in Finland and abroad. Puukko is a very sought after soloist especially as an interpreter of Baroque music. He has also recorded several recordings for Finnish music publishers as well as the national radio, Yleisradio.
The lyrical baritone of Elja Puukko changes fluently from the role of bass in baroque music to the delicate tones in German lied music. Especially the song-cycles Winterreise and Die schöne Müllerin by Schubert are a regular feature of his repertoire.
Puukko performs regularly, especially in the Helsinki area, for private and special occasions.
Elja Puukko is the head cantor for the Espoonlahti congregation and is also the choir and orchestra director.
