Ilia Kalioujnov-Salminen – PIANO
Ilia Kalioujnov-Salminen (born 1983 in St. Petersburg) studied at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and graduated with outstanding grades in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music
Pedagogy. He has taught at the Northern-Helsinki Music School ever since the fall of 2008. During his studies, Ilia was under the tutelage of Antti Hotti and Janne Mertanen. During 2005-06 Kalioujnov-Salminen studied at the Mälmö Academy of Music in Sweden.
Kalioujnov-Salminen began studying organ in 2000. Around the same time his concert schedule became quite busy. He performed with pan flute artist Stefan Stanciu and with Swedish flutist Frans Hagerman. As a result of the concerts, the duo “Pantastic” and “Frailius” were created as well as, the first album, “Café Concert”. Olli Porthan and Olli Pyylampi taught organ to Kalioujnov-Salminen while he studied at the Sibelius Academy and during his studies at the Malmö Academy he was under the tutelage of Anders Johnsson. Jari Hiekkapelto taught him the skills of correpetition and under Seppo Salovius he studied Lied piano.
Before studying at the Swiss Musical Academy in Bern, Kalioujnov-Salminen served his military service in the Conscript Military Band in Lahti. The Band received the honorary duty to represent the Finnish Armed Forces at the Military Tattoo Band Event in Mönchengladbach, Germany and Eksjö, Sweden. As a side note, Ilia was one of the best shooters in the Conscript Military Band and according to tests he had the best physical condition in his unit.
Kalioujnov-Salminen is also known as a composer whose style can be described as post-romantic with
eloquent melodies.
In addition to his piano and organ studies, Ilia has also studied the accordion and completed the
B-examination under the tutelage of Sirkka Kelopuro and Lars Holm.
In 2011 Kalioujnov-Salminen performed his own improvisations at the semifinals in the Finnish Talent program, Talent Suomi. During the same year, Ilia composed and wrote his first single, “You are divine” with producer Maki Kolehmainen who has composed many of the pieces performed by finnish pop-stars Laura Voutilainen and Robin. In the autumn of 2011 Ilia performed at the book publishing event of “Anna mun kaikki kestää” authored by the presidential candidate, Pekka Haavisto.
Kalioujnov-Salminen is known in the congregations of the Itä-Uusimaa area as well as in the congregations of Kolari, Kauhajoki and Iitti. Currently he is serving as a stand-in precentor in the Valkeala congregation.
